Invisalign clear aligners straighten crooked or misaligned teeth discreetly and effectively, making it a great alternative to traditional fixed braces.
What is Invisalign®?
Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign shows you your complete treatment plan based on your Invisalign Provider’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth towards the final desired position. Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth to move them little by little.
At The Poplars Dental Practice our new Dexis digital scanner is not compatible with the Invisalign system so traditional silicone moulds are needed to be taken and posted to Invisalign to create the simulation. If you would like to use the advanced technology of a digital scanner our dentists or treatment co-ordinators can also talk to you about our Spark Clear Aligner options at an initial consultation.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign aligners move teeth through a series of carefully controlled movements. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign treatment not only controls the amount of movement that each aligner delivers, but also the timing of the movement. So, at each stage, only certain teeth can move, following the Invisalign treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and typically hardly anyone notices that you are wearing them.
Because Invisalign aligners are removable, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would to maintain your normal oral hygiene routine.
Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases less time is spent in your Invisalign Provider’s practice for adjustments.
And finally, the Invisalign System allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you begin treatment, so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.
Is this a new way to straighten teeth?
Dentists or orthodontists have successfully used removable appliances for years. But the Invisalign System uses Align Technology’s 3D computer technology and mass-customisation to treat a wide range of patients who want straighter teeth. The ClinCheck® software allows patients to see their treatment plan from beginning to end before the start of treatment.
How much does Invisalign cost?
As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign treatment depends on the complexity of your teeth straightening issue and your course of treatment. As a general rule the cost for adults is comparable to traditional fixed braces and is typically between £2,500 and £5,500.
The Consultation
Once your dentist has confirmed you are eligible for Invisalign treatment they will take photos, X-rays and impressions of your teeth. These records will be used to create a personalised treatment plan, just for you. We will need a special radiograph that you will need to be referred to a different practice for. There are a number of locations we can use.
A mould of your teeth is taken at this appointment then using the Invisalign software we can map out the exact movements of your teeth and advise how long your treatment should take and show you images of how your teeth will look after treatment.
The Aligners
After being custom-made at Invisalign your aligners will be delivered to The Poplars Dental Practice. You will receive a series of aligners to wear every day and change at home – on average every 1-2 weeks. Your dentist will explain everything you need to know.
The Results
You will visit your dentist around every 6-8 weeks to monitor progress and receive new aligners for the next stage. Some people need to have small alterations to teeth or composite bonding during treatment to help their teeth move. After finishing your treatment plan, life long retainers will be required to maintain your new smile.
How do I maintain my smile?
As with all Orthodontic treatment, once the teeth have been aligned it is important to keep the new tooth positions stable. You will also be provided with clear removable retainers and have the option of ordering more than one pair on completion.
At The Poplars Dental Practice we know how much a smile can be lifted with a simple course of home teeth whitening. This, along with composite bonding to alter the shape of your teeth can be carried out after Invisalign has been completed.
